There was an atmosphere of chaos at Sasaram railway station in Rohtas district of Bihar on Monday morning when a passenger train going from Sasaram to Ara via Ara suddenly caught fire. The incident is said to have happened around six in the morning. As soon as the train caught fire, there was panic among the passengers and railway workers present on the platform. Passengers started running here and there to save their lives. Within no time the fire completely engulfed one bogie.
According to eyewitnesses, shortly after the fire broke out, smoke spread throughout the bogie, causing panic among the passengers. However, it is a matter of relief that the passengers were taken out in time, due to which no major accident occurred. As soon as information about the incident was received, the Railway Administration, RPF and local police reached the spot and efforts to extinguish the fire were started.
After the incident, local people and passengers have raised serious questions on the system of railway management. Eyewitnesses allege that due to lack of adequate fire fighting system at the station, the fire could not be controlled initially. People say that if water and fire fighting equipment had been used in time, the damage could have been prevented to a great extent.
Local people said that water was not available in the pipeline laid for refilling the train. Not only this, there was no gas in many of the fire fighting cylinders present at the railway station. For this reason, initially the railway workers had to face a lot of difficulty in extinguishing the fire. Due to the negligence of the Railways and lack of safety arrangements, the fire spread rapidly and an entire bogie was burnt to ashes.
The burnt bogie was later separated from the train for safety reasons. Railway officials also checked other bogies to ensure that the fire could not spread again. During the incident, a cloud of smoke had spread in the station premises. Due to which an atmosphere of fear was seen among the passengers and local people. Many passengers were seen leaving their luggage and running to save their lives. However, the railway administration later controlled the situation.
RPF Inspector Sanjeev Kumar said that the fire was brought under control after a lot of effort. In the initial investigation, there is a possibility of fire due to short circuit. However, the actual cause of the fire is being investigated. Railway administration has started a detailed investigation into the matter and a technical team has also been deployed in the investigation. There is no information about any passenger being injured in this incident. Despite this, this incident has raised many questions on the security arrangements of the Railways.
