The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially declared that its Board of Directors Election will occur on June 7. During this election, the councillors, who represent the general membership, will elect 23 out of 25 board directors. Subsequently, one of these directors will be chosen as the BCB president for a four-year term, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Election Commission Established
Previously, the BCB announced the creation of an Election Commission tasked with overseeing the Board of Directors Election. This three-member body will manage all election-related procedures in line with the board's established rules.
Ahsanul Karim, a Senior Advocate at the Bangladesh Supreme Court, has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner. The commission also includes Md. Israil Hawlader, the Police Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, and A. B. M. Ehsanul Mamun, who serves as Deputy Secretary and Director of Planning & Development at the National Sports Council.
Background from the 2025 Election
The last BCB elections took place in October 2025, where former captain Aminul Islam won decisively. However, following an investigation, the Bangladesh government uncovered issues of vote-rigging, bias, and coercion during the election process.
Structure of the Director Elections
The BCB elections will be organized into three categories:
1. Ten directors will be elected from various divisions and districts across Bangladesh.
2. Twelve directors will be selected from representatives of Dhaka-based clubs.
3. One director will be chosen from a panel that includes former cricketers, national captains, security personnel, and councillors nominated by the National Sports Council.
Additionally, two board members will be appointed directly by the Bangladesh government.
