The ship brought 20 thousand tons of LPG
Amid rising tensions in West Asia and fears of energy crisis, a ship carrying 20 thousand tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Qatar has safely reached Deendayal Port in Kandla, Gujarat. Officials confirmed this on Sunday.
The Marshall Islands-flagged ship MV SIMI had departed from Qatar. The ship crossed Hormuz State on 13 May and reached Kandla port at around 11:30 pm on Saturday night. At such a time, the safe arrival of this ship is considered important, because due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the danger on this sea route has increased.
Hormuz State becomes center of concern
The State of Hormuz, located off the coast of Oman, is one of the most important maritime trade routes in the world. About 20 percent of the global energy supply passes through this route.
Due to increasing conflict in West Asia, there has been increased concern at the international level regarding the security of this route. Tension in the region has deepened after the joint attacks on Iran by America and Israel. The action initiated in response to this has increased uncertainty in the global energy market.
So far 13 Indian ships have crossed the route
According to officials, 13 Indian flag ships have crossed the Hormuz Strait since the beginning of March. These include 12 LPG tankers and one ship carrying crude oil.
This sea route is very important for India, because the country fulfills a large part of its energy needs through imports. In such a situation, any kind of obstruction in this route can directly affect the supply of oil and gas.
India expressed concern in the United Nations
India's Permanent Representative to the UN Parvathaneni Harish said that targeting merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz and endangering the safety of the crew is unacceptable. He said that it is very important to maintain freedom of navigation on sea routes.
Meanwhile, on May 13, an Indian flagged merchant ship was also attacked near the Oman coast. Omani authorities had safely rescued all 14 crew members present on the ship. However, who was behind the attack has not been confirmed yet.
