Why Are Prices Rising?
Essentially, the country imports more than 50 percent of the natural gas required to meet its domestic needs. Following the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, a combination of reduced supply and increased demand has made the procurement of gas significantly more expensive for gas companies.
The companies state that if prices are not raised now, they would face substantial financial losses; therefore, passing the burden of these increased costs onto the customers remains their only viable option. In the Delhi-NCR region, IGL (Indraprastha Gas Limited) supplies CNG and PNG, while MGL (Mahanagar Gas Limited) handles the supply in Maharashtra.
