Instagram Reels: The biggest mistake many users make is uploading videos in low quality.
Instagram Reels: If you are consistently creating Instagram Reels but the views and likes aren’t meeting your expectations, the content itself might not be the only reason. Often, certain hidden settings on your phone and within Instagram can limit your reach. This is why, despite having excellent videos, your Reels may fail to reach a wider audience. By making a few simple adjustments, you can significantly boost the performance of your Reels.
Make Sure to Enable the “High Quality Upload” Setting
One of the most common mistakes users make is uploading videos in low quality. Consequently, Instagram shows your Reel to fewer people. To fix this, open Instagram and navigate to “Settings.” There, you will find an option labeled “Data Usage and Media Quality.” Toggle the “Upload at Highest Quality” switch to the “ON” position. This setting ensures your videos are uploaded in superior quality, thereby increasing the likelihood of higher engagement.
Mobile Data Saver Mode Can Be Detrimental
If your phone’s “Data Saver” or “Battery Saver” mode is enabled, Instagram may limit both the quality and reach of your Reels. This feature—particularly on Android devices—slows down background internet activity and video processing. Therefore, before uploading a Reel, make sure to turn OFF both “Battery Saver” and “Data Saver.” This allows the video to process faster, enabling the Instagram algorithm to push it more effectively.
Use the Right Audio and Trending Music
Instagram’s algorithm prioritizes and promotes Reels that feature trending audio. If you use outdated tracks or music protected by copyright, your reach may suffer. When creating a Reel, always check the “Trending Music” section. Any audio track accompanied by an arrow icon is currently trending. Using such tracks significantly increases the chances of your Reel going viral.
Account Type Also Plays a Role
Very few people realize that their Instagram account type also impacts their reach. If your account is set to “Private,” your Reels will not be visible to a broad audience. To maximize reach, ensure your account is set to “Public.” Additionally, switching to a “Professional Account” can be highly beneficial, as it grants you access to “Insights” and “Audience Data.” This data helps you identify which types of content are performing best and resonating most with your audience. Incorrect Hashtags Can Reduce Reach
Stuffing too many hashtags into every Reel can be detrimental. Instagram may interpret this as “spam activity” and subsequently reduce your reach. Always use 4 to 6 relevant hashtags. Choose hashtags that are directly related to the topic of your Reel. Avoid using random tags or repeating the same tags excessively.
Choose the Right Time to Post Your Reel
If you post a Reel at a time when your followers are not online, you will receive minimal initial engagement. Instagram determines whether to “push” a Reel to a wider audience based on its initial performance. For many creators, the optimal times to post Reels are considered to be between 6 PM and 10 PM, and between 8 AM and 10 AM. Consistently posting at the right times will lead to a gradual increase in your reach.
