Lucknow, Read. “BC Sakhi Programme”, run in the direction of rural development and women empowerment in Uttar Pradesh, is today emerging as a powerful medium of social and economic change. Run by Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, this scheme is making rural women self-reliant as well as strengthening the reach of banking services in villages. Based on the principle of “One Gram Panchayat – One BC Sakhi”, this scheme is bringing positive change in the lives of lakhs of rural families.
Officials said that at present about 40 thousand BC Sakhis are actively working in the state. Through these, financial transactions worth more than Rs 44 thousand crore have been completed so far. BC Sakhis are providing services like cash deposits and withdrawals, transactions through Aadhaar enabled payment system, balance enquiry, insurance, pension and loan repayment. BC Sakhi program has infused new energy into the lives of rural women. BC Sakhis like Priyanka Maurya of Sultanpur and Anita Pal of Lucknow are earning an average commission of more than Rs 45 thousand per month. Till now BC Sakhis have earned a commission of more than Rs 121 crore, which is a proof of the success of this scheme and the economic self-reliance of women.
