Bangkok: A horrific accident occurred in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, on Saturday. A freight train collided with a public bus at a railway crossing in Bangkok. At least eight people were killed in the accident. According to Thai media reports, the accident occurred near an airport rail link station in the central region in the afternoon.
The city’s emergency services, Erawan Medical Center, said at least eight people were killed and more than 20 injured. A video of the accident has gone viral on social media. It shows a line of vehicles stopped at a railway crossing when a freight train struck an orange bus that was parked in front of it.
Eyewitnesses said the impact was so powerful that several vehicles were dragged along the tracks before the bus caught fire. Several motorcycles and their riders were also thrown onto the road after the collision. Video taken later showed a group of rescue workers entering the burned-out bus after the fire was brought under control.
Rescue and relief operations were launched immediately after the accident. The injured were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident. Eyewitnesses say the accident was horrific. No one was able to escape the bus after it collided with the freight train.
