The hearing on the revision petition filed against Sonia Gandhi in Rouse Avenue Court has once again been postponed. Now the next hearing of this case will be on July 4. This petition is based on allegations to enrollment of names in the voter list, in which names have been claimed to be included without obtaining Indian citizenship. At present, the process of the case is going on in the court and further hearing will be held on the next date.

In the last hearing, Rouse Avenue Court had directed both the parties in the case to file their written arguments within a week. Meanwhile, complainant’s lawyer Vikas Tripathi had sought permission to include some documents received from the Election Commission of India in the court record, which was accepted by the court.

During the ongoing hearing in Rouse Avenue Court, the complainant party said that at present their demand is not to start the trial, but to conduct police investigation in the matter. The lawyer’s argument was that there are many such facts in this entire episode, which require an impartial investigation, hence a detailed investigation should be conducted. This case is based on a petition to Sonia Gandhi, in which it is alleged that she had obtained Indian citizenship on April 30, 1983, while her name is said to be already registered in the New Delhi voter list of 1980.

The petitioner argues that if Sonia Gandhi had received Indian citizenship in 1983, then on what basis was her name included in the New Delhi voter list of 1980. The petition has also raised the question whether any fake document was used to register names in the voter list at that time or not. On this basis, a demand has been made for a detailed police investigation into the matter.

In the revision petition pending in the Rouse Avenue Court, the petitioner has made an additional claim that Sonia Gandhi’s name was removed from the voter list in the year 1982. The complainant has raised questions as to what were the reasons behind the removal of names and on the basis of which documents or rules this process was done. The petitioner says that an impartial investigation into all these aspects is necessary. The case already includes the allegation that the circumstances of the name being entered in the voter list in 1980 and its subsequent deletion before getting citizenship in 1983 should be investigated.
