Panic Mode in Punjab? Preity Zinta Seen in Heated Discussion with Ricky Ponting

With their winless run extending to five matches on the bounce in IPL 2026, Punjab Kings are feeling the heat at the moment. Having enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, where they went six matches unbeaten, PBKS now find themselves struggling with the season reaching a crucial juncture.

After yet another loss on Tuesday, co-owner Preity Zinta was spotted in a deep conversation with head coach Ricky Ponting near the boundary ropes with cameras capturing the tense moment during the live coverage ahead of the post-match presentation.

Although Punjab Kings are still in contention for a playoff spot, they are left with very little margin for error. They must win both their final league games to accumulate 17 points and have a chance to sneak through to the knockout stages.

Next up for PBKS are the reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who will play host to the Punjab franchise in Dharamsala. RCB are arguably the team of the tournament so far and recently thrashed the Kolkata Knight Riders on the back of a magnificent century from Virat Kohli.

Growing Pressure Inside PBKS Camp

PBKS had looked like the best unit in the first half of the season but have endured a significant drop in performance in recent weeks.

Their bowling attack has lacked control in the middle overs, and the middle order has also faltered in its bid to perform on a consistent basis. Fielding has also become a major issue for the franchise.

Stats shows that PBKS have been second in terms of the most dropped catches in the competition this season, and that some of their defeats have been attributed to their lapses on the field.

Even the body language within the dressing room seems to have been altered in recent matches. Ponting seemed frustrated after the loss, while the exchange with Zinta revealed how serious the situation is.

It's not yet clear what was being discussed by the duo, however, it seemed to be revolving around how the team could make amends before they completely slip away from the playoff race.

Big Test Against RCB And LSG

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer faces a gargantuan task to lift his team, with two must-win games coming up.

After a showdown with RCB, Punjab will have to face Lucknow Super Giants in the final league game of the competition. Lucknow have overcome CSK, showing good levels of confidence despite knowing they are out of playoff contention.

Punjab Kings have the quality in their team to make a comeback, but any side faltering again like that will have another poor game on their hands. The coming games will ultimately tell if the Punjab Kings fantastic beginning to the IPL 2026 tournament will result in despair, or a playoff berth.
