Tezzbuzz Desk – Amidst the uproar after the NEET-UG paper leak and cancellation of the examination, the Central Government has made major administrative changes in the National Testing Agency i.e. NTA. By appointing two senior officers in the agency, the government has given a clear indication that now the strictness and accountability regarding the examination system will be increased.
The Central Government has appointed senior IRS officer Ruchita Vij as Joint Secretary in NTA. Ruchita Vij is a 2004 batch officer and was currently serving in the Finance Ministry. The second major appointment has been that of ISS officer Anuja Bapat. Anuja Bapat is a 1998 batch officer and has also been given the responsibility of Joint Secretary in NTA.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet i.e. ACC has approved these appointments. According to the information, the post of Deputy Secretary/Director level in NTA has been temporarily upgraded for the appointment of Anuja Bapat. The tenure of both the officers will be five years.
These changes have been made at a time when NTA is under constant scanner regarding the NEET-UG paper leak. There is resentment among lakhs of students and parents after the cancellation of the examination. Now NTA is preparing to conduct NEET-UG examination again on June 21 and in such a situation, the role of these two officers is considered very important.
Actually, NTA is the largest entrance exam conducting body of the country, which conducts national level exams to engineering, medical, management and research. But in the last few years, questions have been continuously raised regarding the functioning of the agency. There was increasing criticism regarding transparency, exam security and accountability, which was further intensified by the NEET paper leak controversy.
