Martin Short , the celebrated actor renowned for his sketch comedies and role in ‘ Only Murders in the Building ,’ opened up about his recent loss in the family. The 76-year-old drew parallels between the crucial moments in his life that included the demise of his wife, Nancy Dolman , and his daughter, Katherine Short .

Martin Short remembers the last words of his wife and daughterReflecting on the last minutes he spent with his wife and daughter, Short revealed that they said similar words during their last breaths. “Martin, let me go," Short recalled Dolman’s expression, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 58 due to Ovarian cancer. “Katherine was saying, 'Dad, let me go,’” he remembered about his daughter, who passed away due to suicide at the age of 42, during an interview with The NYC Times . While discussing his new documentary, he said, “I don’t see any difference between mental illness as a disease and cancer as a disease. In some cases, both are terminal. And in some cases, both are survivable.”

Claiming that his daughter did the best she could until she could not, the Tony Award winner explained during his appearance on CBS News Sunday Morning, “Sometimes with diseases, they are terminal. My daughter fought for a long time with extreme mental health, borderline personality disorder, and other things.”
