England Cricket Team: The England and Wales Cricket Board has appointed former Australian batsman Marcus North as the new national selector of the England men’s cricket team. North was associated with Durham County Club for almost eight years, where he held the responsibility of Director of Cricket from 2018. Now his long journey with Durham has come to an end with him getting a new role at the ECB.
As part of his new responsibility, the 45-year-old will be involved in the selection of players at all levels of the North England men’s cricket team. From the senior national team to the Lions and Young Lions teams, he will play an important role.
Work will be done on future plans
Marcus will also help with central contract decisions, while overseeing domestic cricket during the county season. Along with this, he will also cooperate with the scouting team of ECB in future plans. In addition, North will also work closely with the ECB’s science and medical departments to manage player fitness, balance workload and match schedules.
Marcus North, a resident of Western Australia, has played 21 Tests and 2 ODI matches for Australia in his international career. The left-handed batsman has also made a strong mark for himself in county cricket. He played for six different county teams in England. During his tenure at Durham, North played a key role in developing the club both on the field and organisation, helping to improve the club’s professional environment.
This is a great honor for me – Marcus North
Expressing happiness on getting the new responsibility, Marcus said, “I am very happy to be appointed the national selector of the England men’s team. It is a great honor for me to get such a big responsibility. I am excited to contribute to the development of the England men’s teams. Having spent the last several years working closely with county cricket, I have seen first-hand the strength and depth of talent available in the domestic system. I look forward to working closely with county teams to identify, support and select players who can perform well at international level.
He said, ‘This opportunity to help shape the future of the England men’s teams is something I am very passionate about. I’m excited to start working with Rob, Brendan, Ben, Harry and the entire performance team to build teams that can compete consistently and successfully across all formats. I enjoyed my time at Durham and I would like to thank Tim Bostock for giving me this opportunity in 2018. I will always be grateful for the support I have received from the board, players, staff and supporters over the last eight years.”
