Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has announced a significant change for the NEET UG examination, stating that from next year, the test will be administered in a computer-based format, known as CBT (Computer-Based Test). He reassured students of the government's dedication to maintaining a fair, transparent, and secure examination process, emphasizing that any individual or group caught engaging in dishonest practices will face consequences. During a press briefing, he also revealed that the re-examination is scheduled for June 21.
Pradhan noted that the National Testing Agency (NTA) set the re-examination date after investigating irregularities that arose from the initial exam held on May 3. Admit cards for the re-exam will be distributed on June 14, and candidates will receive an additional 15 minutes to complete the test this time.
Concerns about a potential NEET UG paper leak were raised on May 7, prompting the government to launch an official inquiry. Preliminary findings by May 12 indicated that the question paper had been compromised through a 'guess paper' network. The Minister stressed that the government's priority is to protect deserving candidates from being negatively impacted by these issues, stating, "We do not want any injustice to be done to deserving students."
Understanding CBT Mode
What is CBT Mode?
CBT, or Computer-Based Test, refers to an online examination format where students answer questions displayed on a computer screen at designated centers, using a mouse to select their responses. This method enhances security and transparency, significantly reducing the chances of paper leaks or cheating compared to traditional pen-and-paper tests.
Regarding re-registration, the NTA has confirmed that candidates already registered for the NEET UG 2026 exam can participate in the re-examination without needing to register again. Their details, including chosen examination centers, will automatically be transferred for the re-exam, and no additional fees will be required.
