Kolkata: In West Bengal, the troubles of Abhishek Banerjee, a big leader of Trinamool Congress and nephew of Mamata Banerjee, are increasing. An FIR has been registered against him regarding the speeches given during the 2026 assembly election campaign. It is alleged that he made inflammatory statements and threatened Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Complainant’s allegation
Social activist Rajiv Sarkar had lodged a complaint at Baguiati police station on May 5, the next day after the election results. According to the complaint, Abhishek Banerjee made controversial comments in several rallies between April 27 and May 3.
Through these speeches, an attempt was made to spread enmity in the society and disturb the peace. The complainant has also submitted several video links to the police, in which Abhishek’s statement is recorded.
FIR registered on several sections
After receiving the complaint, the police registered a formal FIR at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station on May 15. In this, sections 192, 196, 351(2) and 353(1)(c) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) along with sections 123(2) and 125 of the Representation of the People Act have been imposed.
According to the police, the speeches contained provocative, threatening and inflammatory words which could disturb public order and harm communal harmony. Abhishek is also accused of using aggressive language against opposition workers. The investigation of the case has been handed over to Sub-Inspector Somnath Singha Roy.
Internal strife increasing in TMC
After the big victory of BJP, dissatisfaction is coming out openly in Trinamool Congress. Many leaders are now criticizing the party leadership, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee. The party has suspended spokespersons like Kohinoor Majumdar, Riju Dutta and Kartik Ghosh for six years on charges of anti-party activities.
The leader apologized
Suspended leader Riju Dutta has released a video on social media and apologized to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and BJP leaders of the new government. He claimed that earlier some people of Trinamool had pressurized him to target Suvendu Adhikari. Dutta also said that Suvendu Adhikari played an important role in helping TMC workers in the post-poll violence.
