Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) face each other in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Friday (May 15). In this match played at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, CSK had a bad start after losing the toss and coming to bat first. LSG’s young fast bowler Akash Singh pushed them on the backfoot by taking the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson and Urvil Patel.
Akash, playing his first match of this season, first showed Ruturaj (13) the way to the pavilion and then walked Sanju (20). Akash bowled 3 overs in the powerplay and took 2 wickets while conceding just 16 runs. Captain Rishabh Pant did not remove him from the attack even after the powerplay was over, which benefited LSG. In the last over of his spell, Akash got the dangerous Urvil Patel (6) caught by Mitchell Marsh at deep midwicket.
24 year old Akash bowled amazingly and took 3 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. He celebrated ‘Parchi Celebration’ every time after taking a wicket, which is making headlines.
Who is Akash Singh?
Born in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, Akash has represented the Indian Under-19 team. He got his first chance in IPL in 2021. Making his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals (RR), this left-arm fast bowler took 2 wickets for 40 runs. However after this RR released him. Akash’s luck brightened during IPL 2023 and he was signed by CSK as an injury replacement.
Akash played 6 matches for CSK that season and took 5 wickets at an economy of 9.89. Akash may have been a bit expensive but he proved his ability with the new ball. After CSK he reached LSG. The team added him for Rs 30 lakh in the mega auction of IPL 2025. Akash got a chance to play 3 matches last season, in which he took 4 wickets. Expressing confidence in Akash, LSG retained. Now he lived up to the trust of the team and did wonders.
Apart from Rajasthan, Akash has also played for Nagaland and Baroda in domestic cricket. So far, he has played 15 First Class, 14 List-A and 30 T20 matches, in which he has taken 69 wickets.
