A teenager from Syria has been found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in a portable toilet on Bournemouth seafront. Mohammed Abdullah, 19, was convicted following a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court of the rape and assault by penetration of the woman in the early hours of July 6, 2025. Judge Robert Pawson remanded the defendant in custody until the sentencing hearing on July 3 and ordered a probation report to be prepared.

He told Abdullah: "On the 5th to 6th July, having come down from London with a group of other young men, by unfortunate circumstances your path crossed (with the complainant). She had had far too much to drink, it was late at night, she was at the beachfront at Bournemouth and, on a whim, you decided to take advantage of that.

"You deliberately took her further up the beach to the Portaloos which, in my judgment on the evidence, you knew were there and knew they were open. You locked her in a Portaloo and you raped her. The sentence is to be decided on the 3rd July but it will inevitably involve immediate custody."

Mark Eldridge, prosecuting, told the trial the woman had been out with a friend that night, firstly in Charminster then moving on to Bar So in Bournemouth.

He said after having a "fair amount to drink", she and her friend headed in different directions and the woman began walking home along the seafront. There, she came across the defendant, who was with friends and who then offered to give her a lift home on his e-bike.

They then stopped at a portable toilet where Abdullah sexually assaulted her before raping her, the court heard.

Mr Eldridge said: "She was wriggling and trying to fight and then thought if she let it happen it would be quicker."

He added: "The defendant kissed her aggressively and she pulled away but somehow got a burst lip."

He said that afterwards, Abdullah rode off while the woman "took her shoes off in order to run".

She then sought help from passers-by, asking to use their phones to call her mother who she told she had been raped before she called the police.

Mr Eldridge said one man who helped her described her as "appearing distressed".

Abdullah, who lives in West Drayton, Middlesex, arrived in the UK from Syria in 2023 and was given permanent leave to remain under a family reunion scheme.

He had claimed the sex was "consensual" and the woman had wanted to hug and kiss him.
