Stock Market: Indian stock market opened in green, rise in pharma and metal stocks.

Mumbai, 15 May. The Indian stock market opened strongly in Thursday’s trading session. At 9:20 am, Sensex was at 74,963, up 354 points or 0.48 per cent, and Nifty was at 23,554, up 146 points or 0.66 per cent. Pharma, healthcare and metal shares were leading the market rise in early trade. Nifty Pharma, Nifty Healthcare and Nifty Metal were the top gainers among the indices. Almost all the indices were in the green including Nifty Energy, Nifty India Defence, Nifty PSE, Nifty Commodities, Nifty Infra, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Oil & Gas.

Along with largecaps, midcaps and smallcaps were trading briskly. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was at 60,560, up 395 points or 0.66 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index was at 18,083, up 89 points or 0.50 per cent. Adani Ports, Trent, Asian Paints, NTPC, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Tata Steel, ITC, L&T, Power Grid, UltraTech Cement, M&M, SBI, HDFC Bank, BEL, Bajaj Finance, HUL, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Maruti Suzuki were the gainers in the Sensex pack. HCL Tech, Infosys, TCS and Tech Mahindra were the losers.

Most Asian markets opened higher. Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Seoul were in the green, while Shanghai was in the red. The situation in the US market was almost the same, on Wednesday the main index Dow Jones closed with a decline of 0.14 percent. At the same time, Nasdaq closed with a strength of 1.20 percent. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers and offloaded Rs 4,703.15 crore in equities on Wednesday. At the same time, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) invested Rs 5,869.05 crore in equity. Crude oil continues to rise. WTI crude was up 0.46 percent at $101 per barrel and Brent crude was up 0.37 percent at $106 an ounce.
