Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday laid the foundation stone of several major defense and aerospace projects in Puttaparthi in Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh. These projects are being considered as a big step towards the country's defense self-reliance.

Focus on AMCA and Naval Systems Facility

During the program, the foundation stone of the Core Integration and Flight Testing Center for Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) was laid. This center will accelerate the development of the fifth generation indigenous fighter aircraft.

Apart from this, Naval Systems Manufacturing Facility was also started in Anakapalle district. Modern underwater weapons, torpedoes and naval systems will be made here.

Drone city and ammunition plant also started

Grounding ceremony of Defense Energetics Facility and Ammunition and Electric Fuse Plant also took place in Madakasira. In Kurnool, 8 companies have together decided to build a drone city.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that drone technology has become a game changer in modern warfare and in the coming times this area will become the biggest drone hub of the country.

Self-reliant defense sector is necessary for national security

Rajnath Singh said that in the current global situation, self-reliance in the defense sector is very important. He said that India no longer wants to depend on other countries for defense needs. He said that these projects will strengthen all three branches of the army and make the country ready for future challenges.

Employment and industry will get a boost

According to the Defense Minister, these projects will generate employment on a large scale. Engineering colleges, ITIs and small industries will also become part of this ecosystem. This will give local youth an opportunity to work in the high-tech sector.

Defense production will soon reach Rs 1.75 lakh crore

Rajnath Singh said that the country's defense production in 2014 was Rs 46 thousand crore, which has now increased to about Rs 1.54 lakh crore. He expressed hope that in the next 1-2 months this figure will reach Rs 1.75 lakh crore.
