New Delhi. While talking to the podcast of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Virat Kohli spoke openly about his international career and the 2027 ODI World Cup. Virat said, ‘My view is absolutely clear. If I can add value to the environment I’m a part of and that environment also feels I can contribute, then I’ll keep playing. But if I’m made to feel like I have to prove my worth and value, I don’t want to be in that place. He further said that ‘I am completely honest with my preparation. The way I approach the game, I work hard. God has given me a lot in my cricket career and I will always be grateful for that.

What is the whole matter?
This statement of Virat is giving weight to those discussions in which it was being said that everything is not well in Team India. Last year, Rohit Sharma and then Virat Kohli suddenly announced their retirement from Test. Both of them now play only ODIs and it has come to light many times that it is not certain that both of them will participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup. It was said that both of them told BCCI that they were not committed to playing. Then there were reports that everything was not well between coach Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Although all three never spoke openly on this issue, this controversy had gained momentum. Rohit was suddenly removed from the captaincy after the 2025 Champions Trophy.
‘Even if I have to run for 40 overs, I am ready’
Virat said that he is ready to go to any extent for the team. He said, ‘If you want me to run from boundary to boundary for 40 overs in an ODI match, I will do so without complaint. Because I prepare accordingly. I play every ball considering it as the last ball of my career. I bat the same way, run between the wickets and do everything possible for the team. Kohli clearly said that if he has to prove himself after so much hard work and dedication, then that environment is not for him.

Vijay Hazare Trophy changed the thinking
Virat also recalled the experience of playing Vijay Hazare Trophy for Delhi. Virat, who came to play the domestic ODI tournament after almost two decades, had performed brilliantly. He said that I wanted to play there only because I love cricket. I like batting. At that time there was no thought of proving anything to anyone in my mind. I felt like a child again. Virat said that as soon as he started just enjoying the game, the pressure inside him went away.
‘Either say clearly that there is no need, else remain silent’
Kohli also expressed his opinion on the place in the team and the continuously arising questions. He said, either tell it clearly on the very first day that I am not good or I am not needed. But if you have said that I am important for the team, then do not raise questions again and again. Comparing it to a normal job, he said that it is not right to express trust in someone one day and question his ability the next day.
Statistics show why Virat is still special

Last year too, despite playing limited ODI matches, he was India’s highest run-scorer. He scored 651 runs in 13 innings. In the three ODI matches played this year, he has scored 240 runs, which includes one century and one half-century.
Virat will be seen in Afghanistan series
After the end of IPL 2026, Virat Kohli can be seen playing in the home ODI series against Afghanistan starting from June. This series is also considered important in the direction of preparations for the 2027 World Cup. However, Virat has made it clear that for him only name or records are not important, but respect and trust are most important.
