The NEET-UG medical entrance examination will be conducted again on June 21 after being cancelled earlier due to allegations of irregularities, the National Testing Agency (NTA) said on Friday.
The exam was initially held on May 3 for over 2.2 million candidates across the country. However, following reports of a paper leak and procedural lapses, the NTA scrapped the test on May 12 and ordered a fresh examination. The probe into the matter has been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is currently investigating the case through multiple teams across states.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan assured students that fresh admit cards will be issued by June 14. He added that candidates will have the flexibility to choose their examination centres up to a week before the test.
The minister also clarified that no additional fee will be charged for the re-exam and that arrangements will be made to ensure smooth travel for students on the day of the test. Looking ahead, he indicated that NEET could transition to a computer-based format from next year.
Taking a strong stand on malpractice, Pradhan reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards paper leaks and said those involved would face strict action before the next examination cycle.
Meanwhile, the CBI has intensified its investigation into the alleged leak, carrying out raids in several states including Rajasthan and Maharashtra. Multiple arrests have been made as part of the ongoing crackdown on the network behind the irregularities.
