Noida: Gautam Buddh Nagar Police on Thursday claimed that more than Rs 1 crore was received in foreign currency into the personal bank account of an accused linked to violent labour protests in Noida last month.

According to police, the money came in the form of dollars, pounds, and euros and was credited to the account of Satyam Verma.

This is part of an ongoing investigation into violent demonstrations and labour unrest that took place under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate on April 13.

Police said that nearly 40,000 to 45,000 workers and labourers from multiple sectors gathered across more than 80 locations, resulting in large-scale disruption of normal movement and public order.

Officials stated that the situation escalated when certain “unruly elements” allegedly resorted to violence and arson at two locations, including Sector 63 and near the Motherson company premises.

Police personnel reportedly attempted to control the situation with restraint, but protesters allegedly blocked roads and disrupted traffic movement across several areas.

A police statement said, “During investigation into the cases registered in connection with these incidents, several startling facts regarding the accused, Satyam Verma, have come to light.”

Authorities alleged that Verma, along with another accused Akriti, played a “pivotal role” in the violent protests, arson, and disruption of public order during the agitation.
