Kerala Chief Minister-elect V D Satheesan has thanked top party leaders on his election. For the post of Chief Minister, he was competing against Congress Organization General Secretary and former Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala. After the announcement of VD Satheesan’s name, KC Venugopal says that he stands with the party’s decision like a true worker. There has been no reaction from Ramesh Chennithala. V D Satheesan has thanked both the leaders for their important contribution and said that both are his seniors and a new Kerala can be created only with a good team.

Earlier, apart from VD Satheesan, names of KC Venugopal and Ramesh Chennithala were also discussed. Ramesh Chennithala is the most senior and experienced leader while Venugopal was claiming the support of more MLAs. However, after talks with senior party leaders, former state Congress presidents, MLAs and other leaders, the Congress has decided that VD Satheesan will be made the Chief Minister.

What did Satheesan say on Venugopal and Chennithala?

VD Satheesan himself has said about Venugopal, ‘I do not consider this post as a personal success. KC Venagopal was the person who was running all the activities of AICC. His cooperation was tremendous. Ramesh Chennithala is also my leader. I will take everyone into full confidence and I will take every section of Kerala along with me. Only with joint cooperation can we create a new Kerala. No one can do this work alone but a team can definitely do it.

Regarding Ramesh Chennithala and KC Venugopal, VD Satheesan said, ‘Both are my leaders, my seniors. I am his junior. Both of them have helped a lot in this victory. As General Secretary of the organization, Venugopal helped a lot. This is his state, he is the MP here. Ramesh was the chairman of Chennithala Campaign Committee. He was my leader for a long time, I have worked with him. Now the party has chosen me. You people keep running a lot of such news.

What did those who missed the CM post say?

On the decision to make VD Satheesan the Chief Minister, KC Venugopal has said, ‘Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi discussed this entire matter with everyone. He called me and asked my opinion and we have discussed every issue. I thank the MLAs and supporters for supporting me. Finally the party has taken a decision and I support this decision.

On the other hand, soon after the name of V.D. Satheesan was announced, senior party leader Ramesh Chennithala left his house. It is not known where he went. Ramesh Chennithala’s name was also among the candidates for the post of Chief Minister of Kerala. After the announcement by AICC, when the journalists reached Chennithala’s house in Vazhuthacaud, Congress leader Jyoti Kumar Chamakkala told the journalists that Ramesh Chennithala was not at home, he had already left.

However, he did not reveal where Ramesh Chennithala had gone. There are reports that Chennithala has objected to the AICC decision and may not even attend the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting to be held on Thursday. Leaders close to him denied these reports and said that Ramesh Chennithala did not express any disagreement towards the high command.
