India and Mumbai Indians' ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah became the 10th captain in the history of the Mumbai Indians when he led the side against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala in their IPL 2026 match on Thursday, May 14.
The pace sensation, Jasprit Bumrah, took the reins from regular captain Hardik Pandya, who was out injured for this fixture while the stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav was not available for the clash due to personal reasons.
The Indian pace spearhead joined a long list of Mumbai Indians captains which consists of players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh among others.
Rohit is one of the greatest captains in IPL history and the most successful captain for Mumbai Indians having led them to 5 IPL titles and into dominance. The Indian opener captained MI in 158 matches and scored 3986 runs at an average of 33.6.
Sachin Tendulkar led the franchise for a few seasons and was one of the pioneers of MI. This year in IPL 2024 Hardik Pandya returned as MI captain after playing for Gujarat Titans and previously the side was led by Kieron Pollard and Ricky Ponting for some matches.
The appointment of Jasprit Bumrah comes in an awful season for Mumbai Indians as they have already been knocked out of the playoff contention in the IPL 2026, but the pacer finally gets a chance to captain one of the biggest franchises in world cricket in IPL for the first time.
