Bengaluru: Actor Darshan, who is currently in jail in connection with the Renukaswamy case, has approached the Supreme Court seeking bail while claiming delay in the trial process.
The actor has been in prison for nearly a year after being jailed for the second time in the case. Earlier, the Supreme Court had cancelled the bail granted to him by the High Court.
The court is presently recording witness statements in the case. However, Darshan has alleged that the trial is progressing slowly and has requested the court to ensure speedy examination of witnesses.
Along with the bail plea, Darshan has also mentioned the difficulties he is allegedly facing inside Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Darshan’s petition on Friday, May 15.
A few days ago, Darshan had reportedly informed the Supreme Court about alleged irregularities inside the prison, threats and harassment from fellow inmates, and other related issues. The apex court had then sought a report from the prison department regarding the allegations.
During the proceedings, the Special Public Prosecutor reportedly submitted arguments along with video evidence and rejected all allegations made by the actor.
Darshan has stated that even the examination of 10 witnesses has not been completed out of the total 270 witnesses listed in the case. He has requested the court to grant him bail until the witness examination process is completed.
The Supreme Court had sought a report on the matter, which has now been submitted by the Special Public Prosecutor.
