A 59-year-old construction worker in Malaysia has walked away with MYR10.6 million (US$2.7 million) in lottery prize, but only recognized the win days after the purchase when he wanted to buy more tickets.
The man, who lives in the southern city of Johor Bahru, typically plays 4D Classic and occasionally dabbles in 4D Jackpot, which are lottery formats offered by Magnum, one of the oldest lottery operators in the country.
But on Sunday he saw the advertisement of another game format, Lucky Pick, and decided to bet on it just for a change. In this format, players will receive a random number instead of selecting for themselves, according to The Star.

The spur-of-the-moment decision paid off. The numbers 2106 (second prize) and 0963 (third prize) aligned perfectly, clinching him the grand Jackpot first prize.
The worker did not immediately realize his fortune. It was only upon returning to the same outlet days later to purchase more tickets that the win came to light.
“I was in total shock. I never imagined a Lucky Pick ticket could actually be this lucky,” he said.
Both he and his wife remain overwhelmed by the unexpected windfall. Despite the sizeable sum, he said he has no immediate plans to leave his job while he considers how to use the prize money.
A Magnum 4D spokesperson said that “stories like this are what make Magnum 4D so special to many Malaysians,” adding that “a spontaneous Lucky Pick can turn into a truly life-changing moment.”
