Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has announced that the May installment of the Kalaignar Urimai Thogai scheme will soon be credited to the bank accounts of eligible women beneficiaries.
The scheme provides Rs 1,000 monthly to women heads of households and was implemented during the previous DMK government, named in honor of late party leader M. Karunanidhi.
A government statement quoted CM Vijay saying that the transfer process is already underway and beneficiaries can expect the amount to be credited shortly. “The government needs time to restructure the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme. CM Joseph Vijay has directed that the Rs 1,000 May installment will be deposited directly into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts soon,” the statement added.
Ahead of the Assembly elections, Vijay’s party, TVK, had promised to increase the monthly assistance to Rs 2,500 for women below 60 years of age.
Vijay Pledges Efficient Governance
In a recent Assembly address, CM Vijay said his government would work with “horse speed” to ensure efficient administration. He emphasized safeguarding the rights of minorities, women, children, farmers, youth, and government employees, while focusing on secular values, social justice, transparency, and public welfare.
