The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing a new tourism strategy aimed at increasing domestic travel, promoting heritage destinations and improving coordination within the tourism sector amid ongoing global uncertainties.

At a high-level meeting held at the Tourism Directorate in Lucknow, Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh reviewed proposals related to tourism promotion, destination weddings and visitor-focused travel packages across the state.

Officials were directed to launch a “Visit My State” campaign to encourage residents to explore destinations within Uttar Pradesh. As part of the initiative, museums under the department will offer free entry for the next two months.

The government also plans to promote heritage sites, forts and eco-tourism locations as venues for destination weddings and cultural events. Preparations at historic locations such as Chunar Fort and Chhatar Manzil are expected to be accelerated.

The tourism department has been asked to work with tour operators to create travel packages for major destinations including Varanasi, Agra, Mathura, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Mirzapur and Ayodhya. Officials were also asked to explore partnerships with restaurant associations for discounts and special offers for tourists.

During the meeting, senior officials discussed measures to reduce operational costs and improve administrative efficiency. Suggestions included minimising the use of government vehicles, encouraging shared travel among officials and using virtual platforms for meetings and coordination.

The discussions also included plans to strengthen spiritual, rural and cultural tourism through visits to temples, religious sites and cow shelters across the state.
