Golf LIVE: Erica Stoll incident back in the spotlight as PGA Championship star booed

The second golf major of the year - the PGA Championship - officially starts today with the biggest names in action. Despite that, the headlining story has come from Wednesday's press conference by PGA of America CEO Terry Clark, with an incident involving Erica Stoll, the wife of Rory McIlroy, brought back into the spotlight.

President Don Rea was heavily criticised for not immediately apologising to McIlroy after a cup was thrown at Stoll during last year's Ryder Cup. Rea has scarcely been heard of since then, with Clark offering minimal clarity on his current role during the press conference that the 59-year-old would normally lead.

Regarding matters on the course, World No 1 and defending champion Scottie Scheffler is one of those tipped for victory, with it announced he will get his event underway at 7:05pm (BST).

Back-to-back Masters winner Rory McIlroy will tee off on hole one over five hours earlier, with the Northern Irishman hoping a late change of footwear, due to a blister on his toe, will help him overcome that issue. His new shoes have been described as 'softer' via Skratch's Riley Hamel.
