Jasprit Bumrah is currently experiencing difficulties during his time in the TATA Indian Premier League. The Mumbai Indians pacer has taken only three wickets in 11 matches, averaging 116.33 with an economy rate of 8.51. His current performance in the Indian Premier League has not affected his position as the top-ranked bowler in Test matches.
The latest International Cricket Council rankings kept the Team India speedster at No.1 among Test bowlers with 879 rating points. Test rankings remain unaffected by IPL performance because the longest format requires players to maintain strict discipline while handling their workload. His red-ball record continues to keep him ahead of every bowler in world cricket.
Bumrah last competed in a Test series against South Africa national cricket team which ended with his two wicket performance during the final match of that series in November 2022. The Indian national cricket team has not participated in any Test matches since his last Test match yet he continues to hold his number one position.
Bumrah achieved 31 wickets during his eight Test matches which he played last year with an average of 22.16. This shows his ability to excel in red-ball cricket while consistently delivering excellent performance. The pacer has completed 52 Test matches while achieving 234 wickets with an average that stays under 20. His deadly yorkers and sharp variation skills have brought him success in both subcontinent and SENA countries.
The absence of reliable bowlers in the Mumbai Indians attack has become the main reason behind Bumrah's difficulties during this IPL season. Opponents avoid direct confrontation with him because they see him as MI's primary danger while they focus their efforts on attacking other bowlers. The current strategy has reduced his effectiveness during this season.
The second factor that causes the situation is workload pressure. The IPL began just two weeks after the ICC Men's ICC Men's T20 World Cup, leaving little mental or physical recovery time for many Indian players. The exhaustion of players has led to performance drops which include Bumrah's performance decline.

Mitchell Starc has moved up to second place in the Test rankings, while Bumrah remains ahead of him. Matt Henry moved to third, while Pat Cummins rose to fourth. India has only one bowler who reaches the highest level which includes Bumrah. Ravindra Jadeja sits at 14th, while Kuldeep Yadav is 15th. India has strong bowling options, yet Bumrah remains the only player who reaches top-level status.
Joe Root maintains his position at the top of the batting rankings with 880 points which demonstrates his exceptional consistency. The eighth position in batting rankings belongs to India's Yashasvi Jaiswal who has accumulated 750 points. Shubman Gill, who serves as Team India captain, has achieved a ninth-place ranking with his 730 points, while Jaiswal remains eighth with 750 points.
