The playoff battle in Indian Premier League 2026 has entered a thrilling stage as the tournament approaches its final league matches. With only 13 matches remaining before the knockout phase begins, the race for the final four spots has become increasingly competitive.
So far, Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have emerged as the strongest contenders after reaching 16 points each. However, despite their strong positions, neither team has officially secured playoff qualification yet.
Traditionally, 16 points have often been enough for teams to qualify for the IPL playoffs. But this season’s tightly contested standings have made the qualification equation far more complicated.
Six Teams Still in the Playoff BattleAfter the recent RCB vs KKR match, the playoff race has effectively narrowed down to six teams competing for the remaining spots.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are now officially out of playoff contention.
The qualification hopes of Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders have also become extremely slim.
Here’s how the playoff equation currently looks for each major contender.
Gujarat Titans Almost Certain to QualifyGujarat Titans currently appear to be in the strongest position.
The team reportedly has:
- 16 points
- Two league matches remaining
- A maximum possible total of 20 points
Analysts estimate Gujarat’s chances of reaching the playoffs at approximately 99.7 percent. Their chances of finishing in the top two are also considered very strong at around 82.6 percent.
RCB Also Close to Securing QualificationRoyal Challengers Bengaluru are also in an excellent position with 16 points and two matches still left to play.
Reports suggest:
- Playoff qualification chances: 99 percent
- Top-two finish chances: 77.6 percent
RCB’s strong recent performances have significantly boosted their chances of earning an advantageous top-two finish before the playoffs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Remain in Strong ContentionSunrisers Hyderabad are still firmly in the playoff race.
The team currently has:
- Around 77 percent probability of reaching the top four
- Approximately 31.4 percent chance of finishing in the top two
SRH still have two league-stage matches remaining, which could prove crucial in determining their final standing.
Punjab Kings Still Have an OpportunityPunjab Kings remain alive in the playoff race with three matches still to play.
The team can potentially reach:
- A maximum of 19 points
Current projections suggest:
- 63.6 percent chance of reaching the playoffs
- 22.2 percent chance of finishing in the top two
Their remaining matches could play a major role in shaping the final points table.
CSK and Rajasthan Royals Face Tough RoadChennai Super Kings still remain in contention, but their path to qualification appears challenging.
CSK reportedly have:
- 53.2 percent chance of making the playoffs
- Only 19 percent chance of securing a top-two finish
Their remaining fixtures against Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans are expected to test the team heavily.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals, despite losing five of their last seven matches, still have:
- 53 percent chance of making the top four
- Only 15.3 percent chance of finishing in the top two
RR currently sit on 12 points with three matches still remaining.
KKR and Delhi Capitals Nearly EliminatedKolkata Knight Riders suffered a major setback after losing to RCB. Their playoff qualification chances have now reportedly dropped to just 2.6 percent.
Similarly, Delhi Capitals are also hanging by a thread with only around 2.7 percent probability of reaching the playoffs.
Both teams now depend heavily on multiple favorable results from other matches to stay mathematically alive in the tournament.
Final Weeks Promise High DramaWith several teams still fighting for the remaining playoff spots, the final phase of IPL 2026 is expected to deliver intense competition and dramatic finishes.
Every remaining match could significantly impact the qualification race, especially with teams battling not only for top-four positions but also for a valuable top-two finish that offers an additional opportunity in the playoffs.
