It will no longer be easy for those who break traffic rules to escape in the capital Delhi. Delhi Traffic Police has made a major change in the challan system and implemented a new OTP based verification system. The purpose of this new system is to stop people from evading action by giving wrong mobile number and to deliver the challan and notice to the right person. According to the information, now the mobile number given by the driver during traffic rule violation will be verified through OTP. Only after the number is verified it will be entered in the records. This will reduce the possibility of giving fake or wrong numbers to a great extent.

Actually, such complaints were coming for a long time that many people used to give wrong mobile numbers to the traffic police. Due to this, the challan or notice would reach someone else or the information would not reach the actual vehicle owner on time. People had also shared complaints regarding such problems on social media and platforms like Reddit. Under the new rule, the driver’s mobile number will now be verified through OTP before issuing the challan by the traffic police. According to the new system, when a case of traffic rule violation comes to light, an OTP will be sent to the concerned mobile number. The challan process will proceed only after OTP verification is completed. If OTP is not verified, the challan will not be issued.

The new OTP verification system will work like this

According to the traffic police, when an officer enters the driver’s mobile number into the system, an OTP will be sent to that number. The process of e-challan will be completed only after the driver enters the OTP and verifies the number. If OTP verification fails, the challan will not be issued. Officials say the move is aimed at reducing wrong mobile numbers, fake information and system errors. For a long time, such complaints were coming to the fore that many people deliberately gave wrong numbers, due to which the challan reached someone else or the actual vehicle owner was not able to get the information on time.

Those giving wrong numbers will be banned

Actually, earlier many people used to give wrong mobile numbers to the traffic police to avoid challan. At the same time, in many cases, the old numbers associated with the vehicle were not updated in the VAHAN database, due to which the information about the challan or notice could not reach the real vehicle owner. Under the new system, when the traffic police enters the mobile number of a driver in the system, an OTP will be sent to that number. The challan will be issued only after OTP verification. If verification fails, the challan process will not proceed.

Fake Challan Scam will also reduce

For some time now, cases of fake e-challan scams have been increasing rapidly across the country. Cyber thugs are making people victims of fraud by sending fake challan messages through WhatsApp and SMS. In such a situation, Delhi Traffic Police and cyber experts have advised people to be cautious. According to the information, fraudsters send such messages to people in which fake challan link, APK file or URL of a fake website is given. As soon as the user clicks on that link or downloads the APK file, his mobile phone can be hacked. In many cases, cyber criminals have also withdrawn money from people’s bank accounts.

protect yourself like this

Do not immediately trust the challan link coming on WhatsApp or SMS, check the challan only by visiting the government website, do not share UPI PIN, OTP or bank details with anyone, use the Official Parivahan Portal to confirm the challan, before downloading any APK file, check its authenticity.
