The increasing tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan has now reached open warnings and war-like statements. Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif made a direct attack on the Taliban government in the Parliament, alleging that the soil of Afghanistan is being used to spread terrorism in Pakistan.
While addressing the Parliament in Islamabad, Khawaja Asif showed a very aggressive attitude. He said that Pakistan is currently facing ‘similar enemies’ on both its eastern and western borders. Not only this, he directly compared the Kabul administration with India and claimed that Afghanistan is now behaving like a ‘proxy’ of India.
Pakistan’s biggest attack on Taliban?
The Pakistani Defense Minister said that Islamabad has been demanding from Kabul for a long time to stop cross-border terrorism, but every time only assurances were given, no concrete steps were taken. According to him, Pakistan sought security guarantee from the Taliban government several times, but no written agreement was forthcoming.
Khawaja Asif said in clear words in the Parliament that if Afghanistan does not stop giving protection to terrorists, then the situation can reach conflict and war. His statement- ‘If they do not stop supporting terrorists, there will be war again’. Now it has become a topic of discussion in the entire area.
Why did Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia become active?
Pakistan also revealed that many Muslim countries had tried to intervene to control the situation. Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey tried to hold talks between the two countries and reduce tension. According to Khawaja Asif, these countries had advised the Taliban administration to take Pakistan’s security concerns seriously, but till now no permanent solution has been found.
Uneasiness is increasing inside Pakistan also
During his speech in Parliament, Khawaja Asif also expressed concern over the internal situation in Pakistan. He said that earlier the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was not fully cooperating with the Center in taking action against terrorism, although now some improvement has been seen in the situation. During this, opposition leaders created ruckus and sloganeering in the Parliament, but Asif praised the Pakistani Army. He said, “Our armed forces are making sacrifices without any conditions.”
Why are relationships continuously deteriorating?
In the last few years, tension has increased continuously in the relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan has been continuously alleging that terrorist organizations are carrying out attacks in Pakistan from the border of Afghanistan. Although many countries tried to bring about reconciliation between the two neighbours, but the issue of border security and terrorism is now becoming the biggest wall in the relations between the two countries. Experts believe that if the rhetoric continues to escalate like this, it could have a major impact on the security situation in South Asia and Central Asia.
