Business Desk – Bitcoin vs Gold Investment: The number of people investing in Bitcoin and gold is continuously increasing. Over the last few years, both these assets have given tremendous returns to investors. However, when uncertainty is high, investors prefer to stay away from risky assets like Bitcoin. At such times, they generally turn to assets that are considered “safe havens”, such as gold and silver. But which of these two has proved more successful in the last five years?
Is it possible to predict which asset will give higher returns in the coming decade? Although looking at the returns over the last few years shows that Bitcoin has performed better than gold, it still remains a risky asset.
Apart from this, the regulatory environment around it is still not clear in many countries including India. Nowadays, young people are becoming more attracted towards digital assets, and Bitcoin is even being called “digital gold”.
Bitcoin and gold at all-time highs
As of today, the price of Bitcoin is $81,048.43. However, in October 2025, the price of one Bitcoin reached $126,000. As far as gold is concerned. Its highest level till date was recorded on January 29, 2026, when its price reached Rs 180,000 per 10 grams.
Currently, the price of gold in the Indian market is around Rs 153,000 per 10 grams, while in the global market it is trading at around $4,700 per ounce. The market capitalization of gold is much higher than that of Bitcoin.
Gold actually outperformed Bitcoin in 2026. Due to tensions in West Asia, there has been downward pressure on the prices of these two assets.
Performance of last 5 and 10 years
Analyzing the performance of the last decade, it shows that Bitcoin has given tremendous returns compared to gold. In 2016, the price of gold was around $1,200 per ounce, while Bitcoin was trading at around $430.
During this period, Bitcoin has given many times more returns than gold. The main reason for this difference is the slow pace of increase in gold prices, while there has been a tremendous rise in the prices of Bitcoin. Although there was a significant decline in Bitcoin during this period, gold remained a stable and safe asset despite lagging behind in terms of returns.
If we look at the performance of the last five years, gold has clearly emerged as the winner. There has been a tremendous rise in the prices of gold in the last three to four years. A major reason for this trend was the huge decline in the crypto market in 2022.
The beginning of 2021 was great for Bitcoin. However, the decline that followed changed the entire situation. On the contrary, gold’s performance in the last three to four years has been extraordinary. Especially in 2025 and the initial months of 2026, it has given very good returns. In this five-year period, gold has undoubtedly been at the forefront.
What is going to happen in the next 10 years?
The big question still remains. Which asset will give better returns Bitcoin or gold in the next decade? Many market analysts have already predicted that there is going to be a huge rise in the prices of Bitcoin in the coming time.
Similarly, many people have also predicted a significant increase in the prices of gold. However, many countries including India have not yet prepared any clear regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies.
Nevertheless, Bitcoin is still considered an asset with higher growth potential than gold. This is because gold is a mature asset, while Bitcoin is still in its early stages. However, factors like strict regulation, economic crisis or arrival of new technology can change this situation.
At this juncture no one can say with certainty which asset Bitcoin or gold will perform better than the other in the future. Various factors such as global market conditions, geopolitical tensions and new regulatory changes will continue to influence market dynamics.
