Natalie Harp, a long-time aide to former US President Donald Trump, is facing increased scrutiny regarding her involvement in managing Trump's Truth Social account. A recent article from a major news outlet revealed that Harp plays a significant role in crafting many of Trump's social media messages. As an executive assistant in her mid-30s, she prepares printed drafts of potential posts for Trump's review and approval. These posts often include content shared by other users on platforms like X and Truth Social.
According to sources cited in the report, Harp logs into Trump's Truth Social account to publish batches of messages that have received his approval. It was noted that Trump also contributes to some posts and personally approves all content shared through his account. Among the controversial posts mentioned were an AI-generated image portraying Trump as Jesus Christ and a video depicting Barack Obama and Michelle Obama in a derogatory manner. Both of these posts were subsequently removed.
The report indicated that some officials within the White House have expressed frustration with Harp's process, as she reportedly does not coordinate her proposed posts with the chief of staff's office, communications teams, or national security officials prior to their publication.
In response to the article, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung stated, "We don't discuss internal deliberations of how the process works, but no other social-media tool has been more effective than Truth." He emphasized that the platform enables Trump to communicate his thoughts directly to the American public without media bias.
This scrutiny comes as Trump's online activity continues to attract attention. An analysis revealed that he has made around 8,800 posts since resuming office. Furthermore, it was noted that Trump has engaged in late-night posting sessions, with at least a dozen posts made between 10 PM and 6 AM on 44 occasions since January of last year. A separate report highlighted that throughout April, Trump was particularly active on Truth Social during the late-night hours. On one occasion, he reposted or published 54 messages between 10:14 PM and 1:12 AM, including posts labeling Obama a "traitor" and calling for his arrest.
