Yameen Vikat, Thakurdwara. A case has come to light in Thakurdwara, Uttar Pradesh which has raised serious questions on local administration and law and order. Here, two poor shopkeepers, who have been raising their family by running their small shop for years, have seriously accused some powerful people of the area of snatching their livelihood and grabbing their land. The victims say that not only were their kiosks vandalized, they were also being threatened with death after looting their goods. In this case, the victims have now approached the Kotwali police and pleaded for justice.

Actually, this entire matter is to the plots allotted by the municipality. It is being told that due to fear of bullies, these shopkeepers have now been forced to flee from their own city. In the application given to the police, the victims have explained in detail how efforts are being made to take over their land by using influence and now even construction material has been dropped there.

The ‘hammer’ of bullying on years of hard work?

One of the victims, Suresh Chandra Ruhela, resident of Mohalla Fatehullahganj, said that he used to run a sweets kiosk on plot number 52 in Buddha Bazaar, located in front of the police station. This land was allotted to him as per the rules by Municipal Council Thakurdwara. Suresh alleges that some powerful people of Bazaar Ganj were eyeing his valuable land. According to the allegation, in the year 2005 itself, his kiosk was demolished due to his dominance and all the valuables kept in it were looted.

Surprisingly, the victim has been searching for justice for the last several years, but the situation remains the same. Suresh says that even at that time a complaint was made, but no concrete action was taken by the police, which further strengthened the morale of the accused.

War for possession of municipal allotted plots

Abdul Hameed, a resident of village Faridnagar, also had a similar ordeal. Abdul was allotted plot number 51 by the municipality, where he was supporting his children by running a hair cutting salon. Abdul alleges that the bullies ‘colluded’ with the then municipal officials and forcibly demolished his kiosk. All their belongings were looted and they were chased away from there.

Now the situation is that the dominant party is planning to do permanent construction on that land. The victims told the police that construction material had been collected for illegal occupation of the concerned plots. When the victims protested, they were pressurized to withdraw the legal action and were threatened with death if they did not comply.

The fear was such that they left the city, now there is hope for justice.

The fear of the bullies is such that the families of both the shopkeepers have fled the city. Due to the loss of their means of livelihood and constant threats, these families are now dependent on every penny. The victims say they are afraid to return to their own land. He has demanded from the police administration that the matter should be investigated impartially and the strictest legal action should be taken against the accused and their land should be returned to them.

On the other hand, the statement of the other party has also come out on this entire controversy. The accused party claims that the municipality had canceled the said allotment long ago. He says that all the allegations leveled against him are completely baseless and false. As of now, the ball is now in the police’s court. Thakurdwara Police is investigating this matter and it will be interesting to see whether these poor shopkeepers get their land and justice or the law will once again appear helpless in the face of bullying.
