These days, the politics of Uttarakhand is witnessing turmoil on issues to law and order and employment of youth. In this series, today senior leaders of the state Congress marched to Raj Bhavan and expressed deep concern over the current situation in the state. A high level Congress delegation led by State Congress President Ganesh Godiyal met Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh. During this, Congress leaders submitted a detailed memorandum to the Governor and demanded to direct the government to bring the ‘collapsed’ law and order situation of the state back on track and take immediate action on the demands of the nursing candidates.
In fact, Congress has been vocal for some time now about the increasing crimes in the state and the delay in government recruitments. The delegation that reached Raj Bhavan included many prominent faces of the party including former Chief Minister Harish Rawat. Congress alleges that the state government is maintaining silence on issues of public interest, due to which there is immense anger among the people and youth of the state.
Government surrounded on law and order front
During the meeting with the Governor, State President Ganesh Godiyal raised the issue of law and order in the state prominently. Congress says that in a peaceful state like Uttarakhand, the morale of criminals is high and the common citizen is feeling unsafe. The delegation told the Governor that the law and order situation in the state has completely broken down and the police administration is failing to handle the situation.
In fact, Congress has urged the Governor to intervene in this matter as the constitutional head and give strict instructions to the state government so that the people of the state can get a fear-free environment. The party believes that unless there is strictness from the top level, it will be difficult to improve the functioning of the administration.
Big demand on the future of nursing candidates
Another main agenda of this meeting was the future of nursing candidates. Congress has taken the voice of the nursing unemployed, who have been struggling for their demands for a long time, to the Raj Bhavan. Congress leaders informed the Governor that a proposal has already been sent by the Director General of Health (DG Health) in the case of nursing candidates.
It is being told that despite this proposal, the state government is delaying in taking the decision, due to which the future of hundreds of candidates is hanging in balance. Congress has demanded that a decision should be taken as soon as possible as per the proposal of the Director General of Health so that the nursing trained youth of the state can get employment opportunities. During this time, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat also expressed his views in favor of the youth and said that injustice being done to the youth will not be tolerated.
Congress appeared united, strategy to put pressure on the government
The delegation that reached Raj Bhavan included not only the President and former Chief Minister, but also many MLAs and senior officials of the party. Leaders like MLA Lakhpat Singh Butola, Media Chairman Rajiv Mehrishi, General Secretary Rajendra Shah and Metropolitan President Jaswinder Singh Gogi were present in the delegation. Apart from these, state spokesperson Dr. Pratima Singh, Amarendra Singh Bisht, Ashwini Bahuguna, Virendra Pokhriyal, Omprakash Sati, Amarjeet Singh and Akhilesh Uniyal also registered their presence.
According to political experts, Congress is working on a big strategy to corner the state government through this issue. On one hand, law and order is an issue to the common man, on the other hand, nursing recruitment directly affects the youth and their families. After submitting the memorandum to the Governor, Congress leaders have made it clear that if the government does not take concrete steps on these issues soon, the party will further intensify its agitation.
The Governor listened seriously to the views of the Congress delegation and assured appropriate action on the memorandum. Now it remains to be seen what stand the state government takes on these sensitive issues after the intervention of Raj Bhavan.
