Airtel's profit fell by 34%
Airtel Q4 Results: The results for the quarter March 2026 have been interesting in many ways for the investors and customers of Bharti Airtel. On May 13, the giant telecom company presented its fourth quarter figures. On one hand, there has been a huge decline of 34 percent in the net profit of the company, while on the other hand, it has been announced to give an excellent return of Rs 24 on every share to the shareholders.
Why was there a huge decline of 34 percent in profits?
Looking at the figures, it may seem at first glance that the company's earnings are declining, but the actual picture is quite the opposite. Airtel's consolidated net profit in the March 2026 quarter stood at Rs 7,325 crore, which was Rs 11,021 crore in the same period last year. This decline is mainly the result of base effect. In fact, in the same quarter last year, the company had received a direct tax benefit (net tax gain) of Rs 2,892 crore, due to which the profit at that time seemed to have suddenly increased. If we look at the pre-tax profit, it has reached the level of Rs 13,205 crore with a spectacular jump of 36 percent. This figure shows that the core business of the company is stronger than ever.
Direct impact of expensive plans, revenue took off
The real game in the telecom sector is how much the company is earning per customer. Airtel has performed brilliantly on this front. The total revenue of the company has jumped by 16 percent to Rs 55,383 crore. The biggest reason behind this is that a large number of mobile users have upgraded themselves to expensive plans.
Due to continuous addition of new customers, the average revenue per user (ARPU) of the company has reached a strong level of Rs 257. In India's mobile business, the company has added 58 lakh new smartphone customers and 8 lakh new postpaid users in this quarter. In simple words, the expensive recharge being done by the common man has directly given new heights to the balance sheet of the company.
Shareholders are happy, Rs 24 will come into their account
Amidst this mathematics of profits, the biggest relief news for investors is the announcement of dividend. The board of Airtel has announced a final dividend of Rs 24 on each fully paid equity share of face value of Rs 5. At the same time, Rs 6 per share will be paid on those shares on which the full amount has not yet been deposited.
This money will be credited to the bank accounts of the investors within 30 days of the approval of this proposal in the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the company. Information about the record date for the dividend will be shared later. In anticipation of these excellent results, Airtel's stock closed at Rs 1,781.20 in the stock market on Wednesday with a rise of 1.39 percent.
Empire of 65 crore customers, entry into new sectors
Financial year 2026 was a year of many historic achievements for Airtel. According to the company's Executive Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal, this year Airtel has crossed the huge figure of 65 crore (650 million) customers. Now the company is not limited to just calling or internet. With the launch of Telco Grade Sovereign Cloud, the company has also rapidly expanded its data center network.
Taking a big step, Airtel has also obtained approval from the Reserve Bank to start lending business through its subsidiary. At the same time, on the overseas front, the Africa business has also made a strong contribution to the profits, thereby strengthening the global position of the company.
