Maruti Suzuki, which has broken the record for vehicle sales in India, has set another record this time. This company, which generally transports vehicles by road, has transported more than 30 lakh vehicles in India by rail. According to Maruti Suzuki, in the last few years they have increased the use of railways for car transportation and this step is considered as an important step in their “Green Logistics” campaign.

According to the information of the company, only 5% of their total vehicular traffic was done by rail in the financial year 2014-15. However, by 2025-26, it has increased once to 26.5%. Interestingly, the company has reached the stage of railway transportation from 20 lakh to 30 lakh vehicles in just 21 months.

Speaking on the occasion, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India said, “Rail transportation reduces carbon emissions. It saves fuel. Also, traffic on roads is also reduced. Hence, the company’s focus is on building an environment-friendly and fire-efficient logistics system,” he said. For this purpose, the company has invested around 11,372 crores in green logistics infrastructure. It has set up railway sidings, logistics hubs, special transport rail racks and other infrastructure at manufacturing plants at Hansalpur in Gujarat and Manesar in Haryana.

The company’s next focus is to increase vehicle traffic through rail to 35% by 2030-31. For this, the company has also announced plans to construct a new railway siding at Kharkhoda in Haryana. Although this achievement is not directly to car sales, it shows that the Indian auto industry is moving towards a more modern, eco-friendly and less expensive transport system. Maruti Suzuki India is currently the largest car manufacturer in India and sells millions of vehicles across the country.
