IPL 2026 Playoffs Qualification Scenarios: What the Remaining 8 Teams Need to Reach Top Four
Cricket Gully | May 13, 2026 9:40 PM CST

With 8 teams fighting it out for a spot among the 4 playoff slots, the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs has gotten extremely heated up. With 10 days still remaining in the league stage, almost every game could change the course of the points table.

While Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans have looked formidable throughout the tournament, teams like Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have managed some amazing comeback spells to stay alive in the tournament.

While Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants have already been knocked out from the tournament.

RCB and GT Close to Qualification

RCB are currently one of the best sides in the tournament. Led by Rajat Patidar, the defending champions have 14 points from 11 games and have the best net run rate amongst the contenders for a playoff spot. They are just a win away from closing in on a playoff berth and should almost seal the spot with just another win in their remaining matches against Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. 18 points should be more than enough to guarantee a spot.

Gujarat Titans on the other hand are in a much healthier spot, having 16 points from 12 matches. Shubman Gill's men have once again been consistent with the bat and the bowl, and are just one win away from almost sealing a spot in the top 2 by beating KKR  or CSK in their remaining two league matches.

SRH, PBKS and CSK Fighting Hard

Sunrisers Hyderabad have been fantastic over their past eight games and peaked at the right time. Pat Cummins has seen his side collect 14 points with still games against CSK and RCB. With an healthy net run rate this may be a factor should teams finish level on points.

Punjab Kings have slumped disastrously following a first half of the season where they have been impressive. With four consecutive defeats, their 13 points from 11 games has put a lot of pressure on the side with games to go against MI, RCB and SRH the likely deciding factors.

CSK have bounced back excellently from three straight defeats at the start of the season. The five time winners have to win all remaining games against LSG, SRH and GT to assure themselves 18 points and therefore playoff qualification.

KKR, RR and DC Still in Contention

KKR are still well and truly in the race following a string of four straight victories, after previously enduring a dismal patch. Ajinkya Rahane and his side could finish on 17 points and it depends what happens elsewhere.

Rajasthan Royals could reach a maximum of 16 points and despite standout performances from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Jofra Archer, inconsistency has really hampered their campaign. They have accumulated 12 points from 11 matches and would be praying for two wins from the last three.

Delhi Capitals are up against it, being 10 points from 12 games. Axar Patel and his team could mathematically get 14 points.
