Puducherry: N. Rangasamy took oath as Chief Minister for the fifth time, Namashivayam and Krishna Rao became ministers.

Puducherry, 13 May. Veteran leader and founder of AINRC N. Rangasamy was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for the fifth time on Wednesday. Along with him are Malladi Krishna Rao of AINRC and A. Namasivayam also took oath as minister.

Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan administered the oath of office and secrecy to all the leaders at the swearing-in ceremony held at the Raj Nivas. N. Rangaswamy has previously been the Chief Minister of Puducherry four times (2001-2006, 2006-2008, 2011-2016 and 2021-present).

BJP national president Nitin Naveen and senior leader BL Santosh were also present in the swearing-in ceremony. In the recently held assembly elections, the NDA alliance retained power by registering victory.

Chief Minister N. After taking the oath, Rangasamy said, ‘I am extremely happy that I have taken over as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for the fifth time. We will work for the welfare of the people and development of the state. My government will implement every step, whether it is expediting a particular work or starting new schemes, which will help in the development of the state. The remaining ministers will also take oath of office soon.

It is noteworthy that in the Puducherry Assembly elections 2026, the NDA alliance has performed brilliantly and secured 17 seats. NDA coalition government has been formed for the second consecutive time in Puducherry with 30 seats. All India NR Congress has become the largest party by winning 12 seats. On the other hand, the Congress-DMK alliance got six seats. In this, Congress won one seat and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won five seats. The TVK-Neyam Makkal Kazhagam alliance led by Joseph Vijay won three seats. In this, TVK won two seats and Neyam Makkal Kazhagam won one seat. Whereas independent candidates won three seats.

The 2026 Puducherry Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 9. Counting of votes took place on 4 May. There was a four-cornered contest between the Congress-DMK alliance, the NR Congress-BJP alliance, the Vijay-led TVK-Neyam Makkal Kazhagam alliance and Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Party.

Chief Minister N. on Thattanchavady Assembly seat. Rangaswamy had won a landslide victory. All India NR Congress (AINRC) candidate Rangasamy got 10,024 votes while his rival E. Vinayagam (Neyam Makkal Kazhagam) got 5,583 votes. In this way Rangasamy had won by a margin of 4,441 votes. At the same time, in the 2021 assembly elections, BJP had captured the post of President and two ministries. In the last term, BJP had also captured three nominated MLAs and Rajya Sabha posts.
