A historic manufacturer is set to close down next month after more than 200 years in business.
The engineering company based in Newbury, West Berkshire is set to shut its doors on June 6.
The filtration manufacturer Cleanova, previously known as Plenty, is based on Hambridge Road, taking up two stories of officers.
The closure comes due to an international expansion which means that parts can now been made in other areas in the UK and worldwide.
A phased lay-off period began for staff at Christmas 2024, after the consultation period.
In July 2025, Douglas Michael Grant was appointed the director of Cleanova's Newbury site after the resignation of Neil James Ritchie.
The sites name comes from a historic Newbury engineering firm, Plenty and Son, that produced agricultural machinery such as ploughs before moving into marine engines.
Plenty became part of the SPX Flow Technology brand in 2001, with a HQ based in North Carolina.
Over 50 years ago in the 1970s around 500 people were employed by the company.
Now, the workforce sits at between 62 and 68 employees. William Plenty founded Plenty in Southampton in 1790.
The millwright and agricultural engineer moved the firm to Newbury shortly after.
Up until the 1970s the company was famously based at the Eagle Iron Works on Cheap Street in the centre of Newbury before demolition.
In 2019 a plaque was erected on Cheap Street to celebrate the distinguished industrial record of the Eagle Iron Works.
Plenty originally specialised in marine steam engines before going on to produce diesel engines and pumps at its King's Road and Hambridge Road works.
In 1817 the company created a lifeboat which was recommended for general use by what is now the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
From then the company continued to create important items.
In 1865, the business made steam engines and boilers for ships, and in the 1920s it adapted diesel technology for ships, power generators, winches and compressors.
In 1935 a rotary pump was launched and then another 20 years later the company concentrated on fluid processing technology, including pumps, filters and mixers.
