Apara Ekadashi 2026:Today the holy fast of Apara Ekadashi is being observed. In Hindu religion, Ekadashi date is considered very auspicious for worshiping Lord Vishnu. This Ekadashi falling in the Krishna Paksha of Jyeshtha month is called Apara Ekadashi or Achala Ekadashi. According to religious beliefs, observing this fast brings happiness, prosperity, peace and positive energy in life.
It is believed that fasting on Apara Ekadashi not only frees a person from sins but also paves the way for spiritual progress. On this day, special importance has been given to worshiping Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi as per the rituals and doing charity.
When is Apara Ekadashi 2026?
According to astrology, Ekadashi fast is observed on the basis of Udaya Tithi. In the year 2026, Apara Ekadashi is being celebrated on 13 May.
Ekadashi Tithi has started on May 12 at 2:52 pm, while it will end on May 13 at 1:29 pm.
The auspicious time for breaking the fast will be from 5:31 am to 8:14 am on the morning of 14th May.
Apara Ekadashi worship method
On the day of Apara Ekadashi, one should wake up early in the morning and take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, meditate on Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi and resolve to fast.
Clean the place of worship and install the idol or picture of Lord Vishnu. Offer Panchamrit, Roli, Mauli, Gopichandan, yellow flowers, fruits and sweets in the worship. Perform Aarti by lighting incense sticks and donating lamps.
According to religious belief, offering Tulsi Dal to Lord Vishnu is considered very auspicious. Chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay” and reciting Vishnu Sahastranam on this day is considered especially fruitful.
Special importance of charity
Donating on Apara Ekadashi has also been given special importance. On this day, donating food, water, fruits, yellow clothes and others to the needy is considered auspicious.
Due to extreme heat in the month of Jyeshtha, donating water, fan or items to cooling is believed to bring special virtue.
Religious importance of Apara Ekadashi
According to religious beliefs, fasting on Apara or Achala Ekadashi destroys all the sins of a person and brings happiness and prosperity in life.
It is mentioned in mythology that Lord Shri Krishna had advised Dharmaraja Yudhishthir to observe this fast while explaining the importance of it.
It is believed that worshiping Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi as per rituals on this day brings wealth, prosperity and happiness. Besides this, this fast also opens the way to attain salvation.
