Dua Lipa’s $15 million lawsuit against Samsung Electronics has sparked major attention after the company denied all allegations.
The 30-year-old English pop star accused the South Korean tech firm of featuring her image on television packaging without consent.
Last week, Lipa’s attorneys filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for Central California, seeking more than $15 million in damages and accusing Samsung of violating copyright, trademark and publicity rights laws.
Now, on Tuesday, May 12, Samsung Electronics rejected the Grammy winner’s accusations, claiming the image was used under proper authorisation obtained through a content partner.
The company also denied allegations of the “intentional misuse” of Lipa’s image.

“Ms. Lipa’s image was used in 2025 to reflect the content of our third-party partners that is available on Samsung TVs and was originally provided by a content partner for our free streaming service, Samsung TV Plus,” Samsung said in a statement.
It continued, “The image was used only after receiving explicit assurance from the content partner that permission had been secured, including for the retail boxes.”
Reiterating its stance, Samsung said it has “great respect” for Lipa and other artists’ intellectual property rights, adding that negotiations with the singer will continue.
“We have actively sought and remain open to a constructive resolution with Ms. Lipa’s team,” the company concluded.
According to the lawsuit, the Levitating hitmaker’s lawyers claimed Samsung used an unauthorised backstage photo taken at a 2024 music festival in Austin on TV packaging distributed in the US last year.
Following Dua Lipa’s initial complaint in July 2025, Samsung said it discontinued production of the original packaging, replaced it with a different version and entered mediation proceedings. However, Lipa’s legal team ultimately proceeded with the lawsuit.
