DA Hike for GDS: There is great news for lakhs of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and postal employees working in the Indian Postal Department. The Central Government has announced a huge increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Gramin Dak Sevaks. According to the new order, now these employees will be given dearness allowance at the rate of 60%. This increase will be considered effective from January 2026, the direct benefit of which will be seen in the monthly income and arrears of the employees.

Huge jump in dearness allowance: straight from 50% to 60%

According to the official notification issued by the Postal Department, there has been a significant increase in the DA of Gramin Dak Sevaks. Earlier, these employees were getting dearness allowance at the rate of 50%, which has now been increased to 60%. This one-time increase of 10% has been done with the aim of improving the living standards of the employees and providing relief from rising inflation.

How much will be the salary increase? learn math

After this increase, there will be a good increase in the take-home salary of Gramin Dak Sevaks. For example:

  • If the basic salary (TRCA) of a Dak Sevak is ₹ 12,000, then earlier he used to get ₹ 6,000 DA.

  • Now at the rate of 60% he will get ₹7,200 DA.

  • That means his total salary will directly increase by ₹ 1,200 every month. Similarly, postal servants working in senior posts will get more benefits on the basis of their basic salary. With effect from January, the employees will also be given arrears for the previous months together.

Which employees will get the benefit?

These new rates of Dearness Allowance will be applicable to all categories of Gramin Dak Sevaks, including:

  1. BPM (Branch Postmaster)

  2. ABPM (Assistant Branch Postmaster)

  3. postal servant This decision of the government is going to boost the morale of the workforce of the Postal Department who do the important work of providing banking and postal services in rural and remote areas.

Budget 2026 and emphasis on employee welfare

Experts believe that this step of the government is a big sign towards providing relief to the employees amid the discussions on the 8th Pay Commission. In view of rising inflation, this amendment has been made on the basis of Consumer Price Index (CPI).
