Mamata Banerjee, who has been in power in West Bengal for one and a half decade, is now seeking help from the Congress and the Left parties in the war against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but all the parties are shunning her. The Congress, Communist Party of India and CPI (ML) (L) on Sunday rejected Trinamool Congress’ proposal to form a joint front against the Bharatiya Janata Party.
After losing the elections in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee released a video message on Saturday. He had appealed to all opposition parties, student organizations and NGOs to unite against BJP. He had said that all the anti-BJP parties can together form a platform. Mamata Banerjee also asked the Left and ultra-Left parties to unite in Bengal and Delhi. Mamata Banerjee would never have imagined the answer she received.
Who is rejecting Mamata’s appeal for unity?
It is not that only the Left parties are keeping distance from him. Even Congress no longer accepts Mamata Banerjee’s support. Congress has also accused Mamata Banerjee government of suppressing the people and termed it undemocratic.
Swapan Banerjee, CPI state secretary, said, ‘The question of going with Mamata does not arise because democracy was in danger under her rule.’
Mamata Banerjee not accepting defeat?
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subhendu Adhikari took oath as Chief Minister on May 9. On the same day, Mamata Banerjee released a video message. He had appealed to everyone that the opposition should support him in the fight against BJP.
Why is this happening with Mamata Banerjee?
The results of the assembly elections held in West Bengal came on 4 May. In the results, BJP formed the government with an overwhelming majority. Out of 294 seats, BJP has 207 seats. Trinamool Congress is reduced to 80 seats. The three parties Congress, Left and BJP are raising questions on Mamata Banerjee’s rule. Mamta Banerjee has been criticized since 2011 regarding law and order. Congress has also accused him of Muslim appeasement.
Mamata Banerjee’s government has always been surrounded by the issues of corruption, crime and law and order. Congress and Left parties have accused him of suppressing the opposition. People say that Mamata Banerjee remembered the opposition when she lost Bengal. He had also tried to become the leader of India alliance, now he has got a setback. Neither Congress is ready to support him, nor any left party.
