A much-loved Channel 5 series is gearing up for its return, with filming already well under way.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries will be gracing our screens once more with its fifth series. Former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay will again headline the cast, reprising her beloved role as amateur sleuth and antiques dealer Jean White.

The hugely popular crime-comedy-drama, co-created by Sally Lindsay and Sue Vincent, follows Jean as she unravels mysteries and suspicious deaths in the picturesque village of Sainte Victoire in the south of France.

She needn't face the challenge alone, however, with steadfast support from fiancé Dom (Steve Edge), close friend Gloria (Sue Vincent), and the loveable comic duo Jeremy and Judith Lloyd James (played by Robin Askwith and Sue Holderness respectively).

Also reprising their roles are Alex Gaumond (as Chief of Police André Caron), Tony Robinson (as Uncle Patrick), Paul 'Chuckle' Elliott (as Trevor), and Stephen Bailey (as gangster John Marsden), reports The Mirror.

The synopsis for season 5 teases: "All treasured regulars are returning; Sally Lindsay stars as Jean White, Steve Edge as Dom Hayes, co-writer Sue Vincent stars as glorious Gloria Beaushaw, Robin Askwith and Sue Holderness return as the delectable Jeremy and Judith Lloyd James, along with Alex Gaumond as Chief of Police André Caron.

"As Jean and Dom plan their wedding, nothing can prepare them for the unseen obstacles that crop up along the way. Over the course of the series, a dead body in one of the show's iconic locations, Uncle Patrick hosts the pub quiz of the century at La Couronne, Judith and Jeremy face a heartwrenching dilemma, and the bodies continue to stack up when someone is found foaming at the mouth in St Victoire Theatre."

It continues: "We witness the full, fabulous wrath of John Marsden, and hold our breath to see whether Jean and Dom will finally make it down the aisle. With even more mindboggling mysteries, murders, and eyepopping antiquities than ever before, The Madame Blanc Mysteries Series 5 will have you on the edge of your sundrenched seat."

Delighted by the news, Sally Lindsay revealed: "I'm absolutely thrilled that The Madame Blanc Mysteries is returning for a fifth series. The love and loyalty from our audience has been incredible, and we're so grateful to everyone who keeps coming back to St Victoire with us.

"I'm endlessly proud of this amazing cast who bring so much joy, warmth, and mischief to the show, and series five is packed with sunshine, escapism, and gloriously twisty mysteries. It's lovely to be back, and we can't wait to share another sundrenched adventure." Meanwhile, Executive Producer Andy Morgan added: "The Madame Blanc Mysteries is the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks to Sally and all of our brilliant team, series five promises to bring more excitement and even more guest stars than ever.

"Our hats are at the ready, as Jean and Dom plan their much-anticipated wedding, but we'll have to wait and see if they make it down the aisle, as things are never straightforward in St Victoire."

Following Channel 5's Instagram announcement, devotees wasted no time sharing their enthusiasm as Sally was pictured alongside fellow cast members on set.

One delighted fan wrote: "Cannot wait for more!! Love this show," while another exclaimed: "At last!!!!" A third enthusiastic viewer added: "Absolutely thrilled and can't wait for the new series. Love Madame Blanc, it's got the lot!"
