New Delhi: Vijay has made a strong start to his tenure as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In his very first order after assuming office, Vijay announced the closure of 717 liquor shops within 500 meters of temples, schools and bus stands across the state. The move came just two days after Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister at a grand swearing-in ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. On Tuesday, actor Vishal praised the move on X.

The main reason for this step is that these shops are located within 500 meters of educational institutions, hospitals, religious places and bus stands. Vijay’s big victory in Tamil Nadu elections
Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), emerged as a major force in the assembly elections by winning 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly. Vijay himself won the elections from two seats. TVK fell short of the majority mark of 118 but Congress immediately extended its support to the party. Later, support also came from the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Indian Union Muslim League. Each of these parties had won two seats each. With the support of these parties, Vijay easily crossed the majority mark and formed the government in Tamil Nadu.
