Will Varun Chakravarthy play against RCB? KKR insider spills hope before must win contest

The Kolkata Knight Riders are riding high with four back-to-back wins after relentless defeats in the initial half of the 2026 Indian Premier League. The side has four matches to go. And in order to qualify for the playoffs, KKR will have to win all four.

Tomorrow, that is, on May 13, KKR will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru, one of the toughest teams of this season. And now, KKR's prime spinner Varun Chakravarthy's availability is in question.

Recently, a video went viral on social media where he was seen walking with a crutch and a protective boot on his left leg. However, a report from The Telegraph claimed that Varun practiced on Monday in Raipur. But whether he will play the match or not is uncertain.

A source close to KKR said, as quoted by the Telegraph,

“Varun was at our practice (in Raipur) today (Monday), but we will come to know tomorrow (Tuesday) if he could be available for the RCB clash."

How will it affect KKR in Raipur?

The premium Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy had struggled earlier in the league. However, with time, he got his mojo back. Along with the OG Caribbean spinner Sunil Narine, Varun played a crucial role in in bringing KKR back to the winning track.

However, Raipur is predominantly supporting the fast bowler. In the Sunday clash between RCB and Mumbai Indians, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Corbin Bosche pretty much proved that.

In that case, there are possibilities that KKR might go with an extra pacer even though Varun gets fit for tomorrow.

KKR's playoff possibilities

Kolkata Knight Riders have kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive despite a disastrous start to the season. KKR currently sit eighth in the points table with nine points from 10 matches, managing four wins, five defeats and one no result.

The defending champions lost five of their opening six games amid injury concerns, unstable bowling combinations and repeated batting failures. However, the side bounced back strongly with four consecutive wins against Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.

Opener Finn Allen has emerged as the biggest game-changer, including a stunning century against Delhi Capitals, while Rinku Singh’s finishing helped KKR seal a crucial Super Over win over LSG. With four league games remaining, KKR must win all matches to ensure playoff qualification.
