Sports Desk. Captain Akshar Patel has suffered a big blow after Delhi Capitals got a three-wicket win over Punjab Kings in IPL 2026 on Monday. In the match played at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, Delhi achieved the target of 211 runs by losing seven wickets. With this, his hopes of reaching the playoffs are still alive.
This is Delhi Capitals’ second biggest run chase in IPL history. After the match, BCCI has spoiled the joy of Delhi Capitals’ victory by imposing a fine of Rs 12 lakh on Akshar Patel for slow over rate.
According to the media advisory issued by IPL, Delhi Capitals could not complete its overs in the stipulated time in the match played against Punjab. This being the team’s first mistake of the season, a fine of Rs 12 lakh was imposed on captain Akshar Patel under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
Delhi achieved the target in just 19 overs
In the match, on the basis of stormy innings of Shreyas Iyer (59 runs) and Priyansh Arya (56 runs), Punjab Kings, batting first, scored a big score of 210 runs at the loss of five wickets. In reply, Delhi achieved the target by losing seven wickets in only 19 overs on the basis of brilliant innings by captain Akshar Patel (56 runs) and David Miller (51 runs). With this, Delhi was successful in saving its hopes in IPL 2026. This is Punjab’s fourth consecutive defeat.
