822 Runs in 50 Overs, 794-Run Winning Margin! Zimbabwe Domestic Match Produces Wild Cricket Records

A domestic cricket match in Zimbabwe has astonished spectators as it recorded one of the greatest scorecards of all time. Scorpions Cricket Club scored a monumental 822 from 50 overs after bowling out Methane Lions for only 28 runs in the 2025-26 Masvingo 50 Over First League match.

This huge winning margin was a margin of 794 runs, one of the biggest win margins ever recorded in cricket. While this was not an official List A game, these figures certainly shocked the cricketing fraternity.

Batters Destroys Bowlers, Smash Records in Incredible Display of Hitting

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Captain for Scorpions, Praise Makaza, set the tempo. A completely dominant display by openers Wilfred Matende and Takunda Madembo put the bowlers on the defensive from the start.

Boundaries were hit from both ends as the bowlers were left clueless. Matende reached his double hundred in quick succession and was eventually out for 203 off just 75 balls. His remarkable inning included 23 boundaries and 13 maximums.

The rate of scoring didn't fall, even after the departure of Matende. Vincent Moyo contributed with an aggressive 78 off 39 balls which was punctuated with eight boundaries and six sixes.

The record breaking innings came from opener Takunda Madembo, who reached his remarkable double three-figure score and ended with a stunning 302 retired out off 143 balls. His innings was packed with 50 boundaries and 7 sixes. 300 runs, in any limited overs match, usually means a win for the team, but here, it was a single batter’s score.

Further impetus was given by Gabriel Jaya who stayed 110 off 49 balls and Bob Mudzingwa was 19 not out.

Extras and Bowling Figures Enhance The Farce

However, the agony did not finish for Methane Lions with their batting onslaught. Their bowlers too proved disastrous in the disciplined sense of the word, granting 109 extras in the innings which included a mind boggling 79 wides and 23 no balls.

All the bowlers used went for over 100 runs. Sydney Shumba emerged as the most economical bowler of them all, but that would not say much, as he was conceding over 13 per over.

Given the tremendous total registered, many expected that the pitch was set to be easy even in the second innings but instead the collapse occurred to an extent where Methane Lions could only score 28/7 before being annihilated by a mammoth 794 runs. It added to the madness of the affair.

Just to offer a point of comparison, the highest recorded total in any official List A encounter in the world so far remains the total compiled by Bihar who scored 574 against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with 190 coming off only 84 balls of young batting phenomenon Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
